UIC’s benefit to Illinois: $4 billion per year

The University of Illinois at Chicago —  Chicago’s largest university with nearly 28,000 students – added $4 billion to the Illinois economy in fiscal 2013, according to a report prepared by the UIC Center for Urban Economic Development. Read more…


New UI president: fight cuts by making case for public investment

Timothy Killeen, new president of the University of Illinois, sounded a note of optimism about the university’s finances in remarks Tuesday at UIC.

Yes, the state is talking about a 31.5 percent cut, amounting to $209 million, which Killeen said “would create significant damage to the university.” Read more…


Obama Library bid goes to University of Chicago

Although UIC was among four finalists to host the Obama Presidential Library, the Barack Obama Foundation has selected the University of Chicago as the home for the library and museum.

“We congratulate U of C and we are excited that the library and museum will be in Chicago,” Chancellor Michael Amiridis said in a statement after the announcement Tuesday. Read more…

Dear faculty, staff, students, and friends of UIC,

Regrettably, we have now heard officially that UIC was not chosen to host the Obama Presidential Library. The Barack Obama Foundation chose the University of Chicago from among the four finalist-institutions. We congratulate U of C and we are excited that the Library and Museum will be in Chicago. We hope there will be opportunities for UIC students and scholars to engage in academic collaborations with the library and museum.
