Campus Message 12.19.16

Dear Colleagues,

Early this month, you received an email from the UIC Survey Research Laboratory requesting your feedback on an online survey as part of the five year review of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Dr. Mitra Dutta. As stated in the email, every five years the Vice Chancellors at UIC will undergo a comprehensive performance evaluation. I have appointed an executive review committee, chaired by Vice Chancellors Robert Barish and Susan Poser, to conduct this review.

The online survey you received asks about your feedback on the many services offered by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) to our faculty, staff and students. Your voluntary participation is valuable to this effort and the UIC Survey Research Laboratory (SRL) will keep your responses confidential.  Read more…

Celebrating new Pilsen clinic

Nearly 100 university staff and community members gathered at the Pilsen Family Health Center Lower West Dec. 7 to celebrate the opening of UI Health’s second community-based clinic.

UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis opened the event.

“Today we formally recommit the university and our health care mission to making a significant improvement in the lives of the people of Pilsen by bringing our health care expertise and our services back to the community,” Amiridis said.

“We remain true to the Hippocratic oath,” he said. “We treat everyone. We are not asking who you are, or what you do, or where you come from. We treat all patients and we will continue to do that. This is one of the core values of the University of Illinois at Chicago and our health care system.” Read more…

To our graduates

Dear graduates,

It started as an ember as you arrived on campus. A spark inside of you was ignited to learn and experience new things during your time at UIC. Now, as you are leaving campus with your diploma in hand, that ember – that new knowledge you obtained – has turned into a bright, burning flame.

We are happy you chose UIC to continue your education and you are now a member of our alumni family — over 250,000 strong, with more than 170,000 in the Chicagoland area. You just graduated from one of the top 100 universities in America and one that is ranked in the top 200 globally. Money Magazine recently recognized UIC for providing an outstanding education at an affordable price. And the U.S. Department of Education reports that UIC graduates earn more on average than graduates from other universities. We hope that trend continues with you. Read more…
