Campus Message 01.11.16
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
It is a pleasure to welcome everyone back to campus as we start the 2016 term. In December 2015, we held our first university-wide fall commencement ceremonies, graduating over 1,100 new alumni who completed their degrees during the summer and fall sessions. It was an honor to shake the hands of these new graduates and wish them well in their careers.
As we begin the spring semester, I want to offer an enthusiastic welcome to Dr. Robert Barish, UIC’s new Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, and once again, thank Dr. Jerry Bauman for his leadership in the interim.
Dr. Barish brings enormous strengths to UIC that will help us improve our educational, research and clinical health care enterprise, and align the academic and clinical missions of our health science colleges and patient care services. We continue to face significant challenges and attractive opportunities in all these areas and I look forward to working closely with Dr. Barish as we pursue our common passion for UIC’s mission. He has extensive experience serving public academic institutions and he has worked his way from Chief of Emergency Medicine, the youngest person ever appointed to that role at the time, through his most recent position as Chancellor of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport. His vast knowledge will serve our campus well and I hope you will join me in welcoming him to UIC.
