Campus Message 05.17.17
Dear Faculty and Staff,
In August of 2016, President Killeen appointed the University Alignment Implementation Team to make recommendations about moving certain organizational functions to the universities from the central university system. As a result of that process, the first phase of implementation will be to transfer three units from the University of Illinois central administration to UIC.
Effective July 1, 2017, UIC Purchasing and the Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS) Budget Office will report to Janet Parker, Associate Chancellor for Budget and Resource Planning, and the OBFS Post Award Grants & Contracts will report to Mitra Dutta, Vice Chancellor for Research.
Debra Matlock and her purchasing team will continue to be based in the Marshfield Avenue Building, as will Karen McCormack and her grants and contracts team. Michael Moss and his budget staff will be relocated to the 26th floor of University Hall, joining the UIC Budget and Program Analysis staff, before the start of the academic year.
The Chicago based OBFS staff have always operated as part of our university business community but they will now be formally integrated into UIC, and we are grateful for their continued service.
During the current budget uncertainties in Illinois, both the System and University leadership are committed to ensuring that these units join our campus with sufficient resources to provide the level of service required to support our institution. We are committed to ensuring that the transition is smooth and that the changes enhance our ability to fulfill the University’s teaching, research, community engagement and economic development missions. I ask for your support and assistance as we move to this new operating model. Please join me in extending our gratitude to Avijit Ghosh, CEO of the University of Illinois Hospital, for his leadership as co-chair of the committee, and to Dean of the UIC College of Dentistry, Clark Stanford, for representing UIC on the committee.
If you have questions or concerns about the transition, please contact Janet Parker or Michael Ginsburg who serve on the UA/SO Realignment Steering Committee. Please join me in a warm welcome to all the staff members from these three departments to the UIC community. I appreciate everyone’s contributions to strengthening UIC and our mission.
