Campus Message 01.10.17

Dear members of the UIC community,

I write to announce the retirement of Mark Donovan, Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, effective March 31. Mark has served our University with distinction and dedication for nearly 33 years. His commitment to UIC is distinguishable by his loyalty to our institution, his 24/7 work week ethic, and his unfiltered candor and deep appreciation for the unique nuances of UIC. On a personal note, I am very grateful for all the friendship, support and advice that Mark provided during my first two years as Chancellor.

Mark’s contributions have been significant in a number of areas with the following representing important highlights: the development of UIC’s south campus; the renovation and re-openings of LEED certified Grant, Douglas and Lincoln Halls, including the first GOLD LEED recognition for Douglas Hall; the implementation and update of emergency business continuity plans campus-wide; the reintroduction and reinvigoration of three UIC Campus Master Plans and the UIC Campus Utilities Master Plan; the reduction of leased space usage costs through the renovation of existing, on-campus space and relocation of these units based to campus; as well as the noticeable beautification of campus through enhanced green spaces and better signage.

During the next few months, we will work to ensure a seamless transition in Administrative Services, and I will keep the community informed of upcoming changes.

Please join me in wishing Mark a wonderful retirement as he starts a new chapter in his life. We will all have the opportunity to thank Mark for his contributions at a farewell reception to be held in March.
