Campus Message 02.01.16

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

Today, Dr. Susan Poser officially joins UIC as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost and it is a great pleasure to welcome her to our community!

Dr. Poser comes to UIC from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a peer Carnegie I institution with a strong research base. Having joined their faculty in 1999, she has served as professor, dean, chief of staff and associate chancellor during her more than 16 years of contributions to the university. Dr. Poser has the academic credentials and experience as well as the personality, drive and energy to lead our academic enterprise. I am looking forward to working with Dr. Poser and Dr. Barish as we continue to improve the student experience and celebrate our student successes; as we maximize the impact of our scholarly, research and community engagement efforts in Chicago, in the state of Illinois and across the nation and the world; and as we build a more entrepreneurial University model for the 21st century.

Susan Poser received her bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College with honors in ancient Greek and political science. She earned her Ph.D. in jurisprudence and social policy and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley and she is a scholar of legal ethics and tort law.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Eric Gislason who has served as interim vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost since August 2014. Rick has been a tremendous asset to UIC for over 40 years. On a personal level, he has provided guidance and support during my first months here and I could not have asked for a better mentor and more passionate advocate for UIC.

I hope everyone will join me in offering a big Flames welcome to Provost Susan Poser and please follow her on Twitter (@SusanPoserUIC).

Thank you,

Michael D. Amiridis
